ABOUT
Welcome to my page!

My name is Ashley Davidson :)
I am the Owner and Registered Psychotherapist at Unwind The Mind!

I chose the name Unwind The Mind because I believe in our brains capacity to unwind and evolve to create new neuropathways. I also believe our bodies have capacity to heal when we focus and prioritize self-regulation and creating safety in our environments. It's very important to me that all individuals feel safe in my space so we can walk along the path towards healing together.

I started my career at a mental health crisis centre in 2015, in my hometown of Hamilton, Ontario. During my time here, I recognized the value of offering emotional stabilization and a supportive environment for people in crisis. However, this fast-paced environment did not allow workers to go too deep into the persons care, so I switched gears, finding a non-profit organization that supported folks with addiction issues.
I completed frontline work and served as the manager of Problem Gambling and Behavioural Addictions programming for 5 years. My time here was so valuable, however systematic barriers often prevented us from venturing to the deeper places to promote healing. I decided to pursue my Masters in Counselling Psychology through Yorkville University, and completed my placement at a local clinic; this opened the opportunity to operate my own practice, which has been a life-long dream!

I largely work with individuals, couples, and families struggling with substance use, complex mental health, and behavioural addictions. Behavioural addictions include problem gambling, technology overuse (gaming/ social media), overspending, binge-eating, and hypersexuality issues.

Therapy is not a "one size fits all" approach, I appreciate meeting each individual as they are and collectively formulating a treatment approach to follow.
